Darren Smith

Darren Smith, Technology Director for English at CUP&A, sits on the English Board and formally the Board of ELiT an acquired AI company.

Darren has been at CUP&A for nearly 9 years and was responsible for the implementation of the worlds most used B2B English Language Learning Platform Cambridge One.  Darren now has a role across both English Learning and Assessment.

Prior to CUP&A Darren has held both Senior EdTech Product and Technology roles in multiple global Education / English organisations.  Always designing and delivering the very best Learning and Assessment solutions for Customers.

Prior to EdTech Darren worked in Consulting and for a number of FTSE 100 companies in a variety of roles ranging across C## and SQL Developer, DBA, General Manager to Commercial Director.

Darren’s first computer was a ZX81, he lived through and survived Y2K, the dot com bubble and now AI; He has an MBA from Henley MC and an MA from Cambridge University, living just outside of Cambridge with Asawa ko, Rhies.

Some Achievements:

• Delivered the first Online Web Based research tool outside of the US for Legal and Business Research
• Delivered the most used Online English Learning Platform for Education Institutions globally, ‘Cambridge One’
• Responsible for the most visited Dictionary globally, Cambridge Dictionaries Online
• Ran the Technical Program for StarHub, at that time the first Telecoms competitor in Singapore
