Mark Encarnación is an accomplished leader in software engineering and artificial intelligence, with over three decades of experience in both academia and industry. He is currently the Director of Engineering at Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington, where he leads a diverse and talented team of engineers and scientists working on cutting-edge projects across several domains including systems, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
He was previously a professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He holds a BS in Statistics and an MS in Applied Mathematics from UP, and a doctorate in Symbolic Computation from the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, Austria.
